YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates two overnight camps, one in Point Pelee National Park, and one on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Employees and volunteers of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario are ambassadors for the Y both on and off the job. Position: Language Skills Manager, Windsor
Location: Windsor YMCA
Annual Salary: $75,672.95
Start Date: January 6, 2025
Schedule: Monday to Friday, occasional evenings/ weekends (as needed)
• Flexible Scheduling based on Program Needs
• Must be able to support programs Monday to Sunday
• After hours responsibilities do arise from time to time
• Annual calendar will be provided as the schedule is based on contracted hours /days yearly
• Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel as needed

In this role, you will:
• Follow YMCA of Southwestern Ontario policy and procedures
• Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in your daily work
• Assume responsibility for the operation of Language Skills Program in Windsor and CELPIP Testing Location in Windsor
• Review current programs, adapt to emerging trends and needs
• Recruit, train, appraise performance and supervise Language Skills Program Instructors, Administrative Staff and Teaching Assistants.
• Ensure classes are in compliance with the third-party funding agreement, PBLA Practice Guidelines and LINC Curriculum Guidelines. Ensure all classrooms are using Avenue as the LMS.
• Oversee implementation of PBLA in the Language Skills Program, support PBLA Lead and classroom teachers in PBLA implementation as per the PBLA Practice Guidelines
• Oversee eligibility for, recording and distribution of transportation assistance/bus passes
• Provide support to the Administrative Assistant with the updating of the HARTs/CLARS system
• Monitor program delivery
• Maintain and overview the monthly budget allocations
• Maintain qualifications as required by this position
• Participate in Professional Development opportunities as they arise such as the annual TESL Conference, or monthly CELPIP Instructor Newsletter
• Prepare written reports; participate in staff meetings and training sessions

Education and Skills Qualifications:
• Must have a university degree
• A Canadian teaching certificate of authorization issued by a provincial institution, or a provincial ministry is an asset
• TESL Ontario Certification is required
• Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and Learning Management systems (Avenue experience is an asset)
• Must be proficient in using online conferencing platforms
• Standard First Aid and CPR Certification preferred
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• Self-motivated and able to work well independently and in a team environment
• Ability to be very diplomatic when dealing with clients
• Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
• Standard First-Aid and CPR Certification an asset
• Excellent analytical skills and communication skills
• Excellent leadership and coaching skills to influence and motivate others
• Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity towards the challenges facing immigrant newcomers
• Self-motivated and able to work well independently and in a team environment
• Management experience is preferred
