JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview
The Site Director is responsible forproviding leadership to the daily operations of the day camp site. They ensure safety and satisfaction goals are being met. They are ultimately responsiblefor camper safety and enjoyment, managing a staff team, solving problemsand providing excellent customer service. They are committed to the goals and philosophies of the YMCA and bring with them a proven track recordof progressive leadership in a summer camp, recreationor outdoor education setting.


Core Responsibilities
Describe the mandatory core functions of this position.
Manage all aspects of daily operations of day camp site

Overseeing all aspects of YMCA Day Camp at designated site, including human resources, program standards, financial management, safety and risk-management, camper care and day camp administration

Managing and monitoringweekly staffing needs in partnership with the Leadership Team

Oversee coordination of camp logistics

Maintain healthy working relationship with partners and third partyservice providers

Act as positive role model in attitude, health and wellness for campers, volunteersand staff

Active risk management practices as per current policies

Positive communication, problem solving, and addressing concerns in a timely mannerwith camper families


Provide leadership and guidance to staff

Guide, mentor, discipline staff as needed

Ensure YMCA performance management process is followed for all staff

Incorporate the principals of YMCA Healthy Child Development into all programming

Ensure programming is developmentally appropriateand strength based

Provide leadership to all staff trainings and meetings


Education / Experience
Describe required academic, technical, and business education requiredand how it will be used. In addition to education, describe required work experience and how it will be used.
1 to 3 years experienceworking with childrenin a camp setting (day or overnight)

Experience supervising staff

Will be 18years old within the calendar year of employment

Current Standard First Aid and CPR

Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening as per current YMCA HR policy

Participation in YMCA Healthy Child Development (training provided)


Supervisory / Managerial / Coordination
Describe to what extent policies and/or guidelines will be developed, or interpreted, and number and skills of people supervised. Describe the type of training and/or direction to be given to other employees, and/or the extent of scheduling work for others.
This role is the direct supervisor ofa staff team that will varyin sizedepending on the specific day camp location. They arerequired toprovide leadership to the entire day camp staff team. For direct reports, it is required that the Site Director will perform regular feedback, coaching and disciplinary action as needed.


Financial / Budgeting
Describe the extent of budget development, responsibility for expense, capitaland cost control. Also describe the extent of responsibility for selection of assets and effect on product pricing.
This role is responsible forstaying on budget with summer day camp expenses included closely monitoringstaff wage expenses.


Working Conditions
Describe the work environment required, including mental, emotionalandphysical characteristics of the environment such as heat, cold, dust, use of chemicals,hazards, travel, stress, mental attention, judgement needed and if 24 houron call duty is involved.
This role works has administrative and program supervision responsibilities.


The program is for children between 4 to 16 years old in a very activeprogram. The YMCA is open all children.


The work environment includes indoor, outdoorand aquatic environments. The program is offered during all kinds of weather from hot summerdays to rainy weather.


Staff willspend parts of their day at a desk working on a computer, speaking on the phone. Other parts of the day involve being on their feet, walking, running, jumpingor inactive playing.


Some locations have adventure basedprogramming such as high ropes, or canoeing. Staff are expected to ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed.

Program templates with activities listed will be provided by the supervisor. Staff are encouraged to be creative in program delivery and meet the needs of the children and youth within their program.


Recommendations for improved camper experiences are encouraged.

Develops and sustains goodstaff, volunteer, child and parent relations on a daily basis.This rolealso involves maintaininggood working relations with the staff in the Camping Branch.
