Youth Outreach Worker YGAP

YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and we have been making a positive difference in the communities we serve by providing quality childcare for over 50 years!At the Y, we are committed to providing you with opportunities to develop your knowledge, skills, and career while you enhance the experience of the children and families that we serve.Position: Youth Outreach Worker YGAPLocation: Office based in Windsor, with service area of Windsor Essex and Chatham KentStart Date: ASAPSchedule:Compensation: English speaking Outreach Worker - $42,000, Bilingual (French) speaking Outreach Worker - $44,500As part of your total compensation: • Receive a complimentary YMCA personal membership to our Health & Fitness facilities, and discounts on YMCA child care and camp programs • Access vacation entitlement in accordance with the employment standards regulations, and up to 3 paid personal days annually • Benefits package and Pension applicable with position/contract length • Be part of a caring and supportive network of people to help each other succeed • Complimentary access to wellness and counselling servicesIn this role, you will: • Establish and maintain relationships with local school boards, community and youth service providers • Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to engage local community and meet monthly presentation targets • Deliver and facilitate educational workshops to youth (8 – 24 yrs.), teachers, health professionals and other agencies/organizations working with youth • Maintain up to date knowledge regarding issues and trends related to youth gambling • Plan, organized and implement community involvement initiative to raise awareness about youth gambling in conjunction with other community organizations • Design and implement youth engagement activities related to youth gambling awareness • Attend relevant educational seminars/events and present learning to the provincial team • Develop and support local advisory committee • Maintain accurate records and statistics related to the activities undertaken and outcomes achieved and report these regularly to the Provincial Coordinator • Maintain ongoing communication with Lead Site • Be committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging • Embrace and exemplify the Y’s core valuesEducation & Skills Qualifications: • University degree or college diploma (or equivalent) in Social Services, Education or other related field • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral English • Experience in the delivery of public health, prevention and awareness initiatives • Experience with outreach activities and strategies • Experience in group facilitation • Knowledge of harm reduction principles • Experience in working with youth, sensitivity and knowledge in dealing with youth from different cultural and racial backgrounds and youth with special needs • Ability to work in an efficient manner with a high degree of independence • Experience working in/knowledge of the community resources in London and surrounding area would be an asset • Knowledge of gambling issues an asset • Knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum an asset • Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Position Screen is required • Legally entitled to work in CanadaWhy the Y?The YMCA of Southwestern Ontario is committed to the development of healthy communities and welcomes people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities.
